Fine Art Handling & Installation FAQs

Why is using an experienced art handler important?

Fine art is fragile, valuable, and often irreplaceable. An experienced art handler understands proper lifting, packing, mounting, spacing, and environmental considerations so artwork is protected during handling and installed safely and correctly. This matters anytime artwork has financial, historical, or personal value—or when it’s large, heavy, delicate, or professionally framed.

When should I hire an art handler instead of a general contractor or handyman?

If the work involves original art, antiques, custom framing, oversized pieces, multiple works, complex layouts, or valuable interiors, a handyman is the wrong choice. Art handling requires specialized tools, training, and judgment. One mistake can permanently damage the work or the wall behind it.

What types of art do you handle?

I handle a wide range of fine art and decorative works, including:

  • Original paintings (oil, acrylic, mixed media)

  • Works on paper (framed or unframed)

  • Photography

  • Sculptures and three-dimensional pieces

  • Mirrors and specialty framed objects

  • Gallery walls and multi-piece installations
If it belongs in a gallery, museum, office, or curated home, it’s likely a fit.

Do you work with homeowners directly, or only with designers and architects?

Both. I work directly with homeowners, collectors, office managers, galleries, designers, and architects. I can either partner behind the scenes as part of a larger project or work directly with the end client—whatever best supports the project.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing is based on time, scope, complexity, and materials. I typically provide an estimated quote after a phone consultation or walkthrough. Quotes include:

  • Estimated labor hours

  • Required materials and supplies

  • Installation complexity
Travel may be added depending on distance from Sandpoint/North Idaho.

Do you provide estimates before starting work?

Yes. I aim to be transparent and realistic. Estimates are based on the information available at the time and adjusted only if scope changes. There are no surprise add-ons without discussion.

Are you insured?

Yes. I carry professional insurance appropriate for art handling and installation work. This protects both the artwork and the client.

Can you help with placement, layout, and spacing decisions?

Yes. Proper spacing, height, balance, and alignment are critical to how art is experienced. I regularly advise on placement to ensure the work is shown to its best advantage while respecting the space and architecture.

Do you handle packing, transport, or coordination with movers?

I provide local handling, packing, and preparation for transport. I also coordinate with fine art movers or transportation companies when needed to ensure continuity and proper standards from start to finish.

What areas do you serve?

I primarily serve North Idaho and nearby regions. Projects outside the immediate area may include travel time and expenses, depending on distance and scope.

How do I get started?

Reach out via the contact form or email with a brief description of the project. Photos are helpful. From there, I’ll schedule a call or walkthrough to understand the work and provide next steps.
